How Long Should You Wait before Replacing Your Running Shoes

How Long Should You Wait before Replacing Your Running Shoes

Why do you need comfortable shoes? To keep your feet in well condition and support your sole and ankle, right? When you exercise, at gym or outside, your feet get exhausted like your whole body. You do many things to energize your whole body. What about your feet? Buy sports shoes to get the utmost comfort while working out. But, the shoes are not for lifetime. With repeated usages, they wear out. When should you replace the existing running shoes and buy new one? Here are some signs that will tell you this is the time to have a new pair. Have a look-

Running Shoes

Change Every 300-400 Miles

This is the thumb rule of changing your running shoes. Usually, podiatrists recommend replacing your running shoes after 300-400 miles, but there are some factors you need to check out-

  • Are you a small runner? Then, your shoes wear off slowly.
  • In case of heavy runner, the 300 miles rule is apt.
  • If you run on road, you may need to replace your shoes faster.
  • If it is treadmill, then you can wait a bit.
  • Changing running shoes also depends on your body weight, running style and the surface on which you run.

Isn’t the Shoe Comfortable-?

You can’t run at all, if the shoe pricks you or you feel pain. If you feel aches at joints, ankle and especially on your knees that means, the cushioning is wearing out. This is time for checking online shopping sites or shoe shops for a new pair.

Shoe fails Twist Test

One of the easiest checking signs whether the shoe will last further or it’s time to replace it.

  • Hold the shoe from both ends.
  • Now, try to twist it.
  • A well-conditioned can’t be twisted as it has firm built.
  • Old shoes or a shoe that doesn’t have proper support can be twisted easily.

Worn-out Treads

If the treads of the running shoes are worn-out, you have to buy new ones. The soles of a shoe last longer than the shock absorbency and cushioning. Any problem in sole will prevent you to run comfortably with that shoe.

New Shoes Feel Better

Podiatrists suggest having two pairs of running shoes. If you use one regularly and start to use another at the mid-life of the former, then you can extend the life of the older shoe. When you feel that won’t serve anymore, you can go back to another pair without investing on a new one, immediately.

Apart from these signs, here are some more things to check out while replacing your old running shoes-

  • Outer sole has worn out through the white mid-soul.
  • The mid-soles become too soft and don’t take enough pressure.
  • The heel portion has become cranky and it is not supporting your heels.
  • The upper portion has tears and your toes are peeping out.

So, if these signs are visible on your sports shoe, this is time to search online shopping sites and buy sports shoes to continue your exercise routine.
